Study Design

Eligibility Screening

•   brief telephone interview (<30 minutes)
  
•   mailed consent forms
•   telephone psychiatric interview (1-2 hours)
  

Telephone Interview

• telephone interview about life stressors (1 hour)
  

UCSF Visit

•   interview & questionnaires
•   challenging tasks (eg, math)
•   blood & saliva samples

Depressed participants will then enter a follow-up phase:

6 Month Follow-up

•   mailed questionnaire
•   telephone interview

12 Month Follow-up

•   mailed questionnaire
•   telephone interview

Depressed participants will be compensated $175 for their time. Healthy control participants will be compensated $125.

If individuals do not complete the study, their payments will be prorated according to how much of the study they have completed.
